Towards The Sun Album Review
Towards The Sun is an album you turn on after working a long, hard, stressful day. Murdoch’s soft vocals and guitar strings combo in each song is the comfort you will be looking for. The 7-song, 37-minute-long album will leave you feeling worry-free and that everything is alrightall right in the world. At the same time, this album also makes you feel a sense of longing for somewhere you have never been or someone you have never met. As a listener, you can sense every emotion that Murdoch wanted to portray in his songs, which is difficult for a singer to do.
One of the songs from the album, "Some Day Soon," actually appeared in season 1 of the popular show This Is Us. While listening through the album, I kept thinking about how songs on the album would make for great commercial songs or sync. Murdoch’s songs would also sound great in a coffee shop or on a road trip. Really, almost any setting would work.
My favorite song on the album is “Crinan Wood.” This song really stood out from the others, and I enjoyed the different instruments used in the recording as they gave the song a tropical feel. Many of the other songs had similar vibes in terms of rhythm, tone, and style. I think it would have been nice to get some versatility on the album to bring some excitement and variety to the listeners. While I don’t think this is an album I would sit down and intently listen to again, it is an album I would enjoy playing in the background to create a peaceful atmosphere.
Although Murdoch is known for his folk music, I would love to see him branch out into making country or blues-type songs as I feel his voice would really fit these genres. Murdoch has not released music since this album, but I am eager to listen to whatever he decides to release next.
