A Little Jaded - Episode 1
A Little Jaded Transcription - Episode 1
Jade: Hello everyone welcome to our first podcast of “A Little Jaded” presented by Jaded Productions. My name is Jade, I am the founder and president of Jaded Productions. I’m here with Joanna, do you want to introduce yourself?
Joanna: Hi I’m Joanna, I’m the executive VP here at Jaded.
Jade: Jaded Productions is basically an artist consulting company where we focus on the promotion, consulting and management of smaller artists as well as the promotion of larger more established artists to help grow their fan bases. I am a sophomore at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania where I live. I'm a full-time student studying finance and information systems, double major. I am also on 3 street teams, Jonas group, Fan to band, and VH management. I am also a Warner Music Group career series participant for the spring of 2021 and a Grammy U member. I also received my Certificate in Music Essentials at New York University. Joanna did you want to introduce yourself?
Joanna: My name is Joanna Perez and I am from the California Bay Area currently going to West Valley College. I am actually a third year student and will transfer to San Jose State University in the upcoming fall. It will be very exciting. By the time this episode comes out, I believe next week, will be my official graduation from West Valley. Before COVID, I was in Alpha Gamma Sigma Honor Society and actually my major is Early Childhood Education. We can talk about that later. Outside of school, I am also a part of 3 street teams, the same as Jade, Fan to band, VH management and the Jonas group. I am also assistant to the founder and head of Access Pass, go and check it out!
Jade: Yeah let's just jump straight into it because it’s going to be great! Do you have the first topic you want to talk about?
Joanna: How did Jaded become a thing? Go into that whole story.
Jade: Yeah absolutely, so I had always known that I wanted to work in the music industry. I grew up as a fangirl, I was always a fangirl, the first band that I really liked was the Naked Brothers Band. I really started to become a huge fan, and I still am, of the Jonas Brothers and then I really started to get into the fan culture when Big Time Rush came around. I had a fan page on Instagram with my best friend, before we even knew what we were doing, we just really wanted to like celebrating Big Time Rush. Then I decided to take music seriously and like to consider it as a career path for myself whenever I get into Justin Bieber in 2013 and I watched his manager Scooter Braun and
I was like that looks so cool I want to do exactly what he does, like work behind the scenes a little bit. For a long time I had wanted to be an artist because I play guitar and piano because I like to force myself to but I just taught myself to learn. So I started this management company. I was just hanging out in my college dorm. I was trying to figure out my career path, you know as a freshman in college, we're all trying to figure ourselves out and what we want to do. I didn't want to give up on being in the music industry so early in my life, I wanted to at least try. So what I did was I reached out to my friend from high school, I knew she was a singer and she also played guitar and piano really well so I reached out to her, and I basically said “I don't know if you're thinking about pursuing music seriously but I think you're really talented and I would really love to promote you and manage as much as I can for you at your level.” She said “yeah absolutely let's meet for coffee and talk about it.” So in late 2019, we met and I asked her what she wanted from a manager. We met at Starbucks and I said “How can we do this? How can I manage you?” She said “I just want more listeners, people to know about me.” So I had formed Jaded Productions to promote her and promote myself. She wasn't really pursuing it seriously, she wanted to be a therapist, so that kind of ended, but I still wanted to continue Jaded Productions. So we lost touch a little bit, and after that I basically was reading as much as I could and I got my certification from NYU in Music Industry Essentials when things were slow during COVID. I was trying to educate myself as much as I could. I wasn't giving up, I had no idea where it was going but I wanted to keep going. This year, January 2021, I joined the Fan-to-Band team and met Joanna. Joanna do you want to go into how we met?
Joanna: Yes! Well first of all, anyone not watching this, Jade has a full studio set-up. She has the headset, the mic, and everything. I still want to hear you sing! Maybe one day on the podcast for all of us.
Jade: Yes! I definitely will. I like being behind the camera too.
Joanna: Shout out to you for taking the opportunity with Angela too. Just so everyone knows, that wasn't under contract or anything.
Jade: It was a handshake contract, a flying-naked kind of thing.
Joanna: I would love to get into how we met! It’s kind of funny because I didn't think about this until kind of recently liked the fact that well like you said we both joined a Fan-to-Band, and I just got accepted into Grammy-U in January, and for me that was actually the first step ever and anything having to do with the music industry so that was huge for me. Like I remember I don't know how you found out about them, but I found out about them from my Tik-Tok for you page and I heard like a lot of people follow
them. So if you don't follow them, go follow them but yeah so I joined and when you join a street, at least for most of the time, you do like your little intros and things and you say the artist you like and everyone drops their Instagram, so I'm sure I followed a billion people that first week and I'm sure Jade was one of them. I followed all a bunch of people and we had never really spoken at all until, I want to say, February. After I got accepted I had been reached out to from a couple times We're kind of confused because for anybody who has tried to apply for Grammy U, it's a little bit confusing and one of the people who actually reached out to me was Jade apply for Grammy U also and so we just kind of chatted back and forth from super casual and that was the first time we ever spoke in individually on DM and I remember, weirdly enough, this has to be fate or something because weirdly enough, like that week I think you had posted something on your story about Jaded something or about your blog and I was just like “wow this is really cool like she's doing she's doing her own project this is so cool.” One of the lanes that I have always been interested in is artist management and I saw that was such a cool opportunity. I literally had never had a conversation with Jade besides the Grammy U conversation so I was so nervous to message her. thought she was going to be like “who is this chick, like I don't know her and I don't need anybody.” Like in my mind I didn't know that you were doing Jaded alone, I thought that maybe you had like other people that you were working with your team may be and so I was like “oh maybe she doesn't need anybody on our team but I'm going to ask her anyway.” So I messaged you, I wish I should have pulled up the next episode of the message and see what I said, I don't remember but I said something where I was just like and “I saw what you're doing at Jaded Productions and I think you know, if you ever need somebody to help you out or anything, I would love to be of help. I was just going to maybe write blogs or whatever like something super simple and then Jade responded and she was like “Oh my God yes'' and then that same week, I think it was a few days later, is when we first officially met. For anybody who has connected the dots, I am currently in San Jose, California and Jade is in Pittsburgh. We would If it wasn't for Fan-to-Band and I basically shot my shot in business and in friendship because that first call I saw that she had a Harry Styles vinyl hanging on her wall and I was like “I can vibe with this chick” Yeah and that's basically how we met.\
Jade: Pull up the DM and you said, and I quote, on March 9th you said “hey girl I'm so happy for you I was wondering if you ever considered taking on new people I am also really interested in artist management.” The moral of that story is to reach out to people because you have no idea if there's a situation or anything. It’s funny because you said you were nervous to reach out but i was nervous to talk to you too because everybody talks about everybody knows Joanna. Like Joanna said, reach out and shoot your shot. If I didn't need her help, I still would have kept her in my back pocket. You know like thinking about it, thinking about her and where she can fit in because you were
extremely goal-oriented. And you were always wanting to be involved in whatever capacity. Because I wanted to help you propel you toward your goals and we don't just talk about Jaded we talk about everything else in life.
Joanna: Our texts are just a bunch of random things.
Jade: Yes, just about anything under the sun. Like hey how was class today?
Joanna: I thought “Oh she has a team behind her” but you didn't and that first call you were like how do you like Executive Vice President for your title and I was like “Woah” you have no idea how shocked I was.
Jade: I think the anniversary of that call was like the 10th. As soon as you chatted me I literally ran I'm not even going to lie but soon as you chatted me I literally ran from my room to like my sisters room and I was just screaming I was like somebody wants to be a part of Jaden's I'm freaking out there's somebody out there that actually wants to be in my company like this is insane you know because I don't know like nobody ever thought what I was doing was like cool or semi-successful. Somebody actually saw value in what I was doing enough to like want to join me you know so I was just like and I had no idea what you wanted exactly executive vice-president I was like I mean you could be as involved as you want to but since you're like the first person that reach out to me and I see your active all the time on socials and like you're really cool so you know so how is Executive Vice President? Because yeah I was just and I was like that first impression I was like super nervous to talk to you! I actually asked my friend, I literally FaceTimed him the night before and I was like “I have no idea what I'm going to say to her tomorrow can I run through what I'm going to say with you?”
Joanna: You never never told me that!
Jade: Yeah yeah I know because I was like this is so embarrassing. But for the Jaded audience I'll do it to myself. So I said just pretend like you're Joanna and you want to be with Jaded Productions and I'm going to run you through what we do. I had no idea what she wanted. I had no idea I was like we don't have any artists right now. I was like, he's in like legit is she going to want to be a part of it but like yeah and it's been it's been a ride since.
Joanna: The rest is history. Trust me, I went into this because like I said, my only experience really was Fan-to-Ban and so in my mind I was like “oh my God like I don't know anything.” Granted, if you're a fan, you do have knowledge. And I'm just going to say that right now just to set the preface for all future episodes, we’re always going to
say this. But that is credible See stuff about the industry and everything but I was like oh my God I don't even know what I have to offer this girl but I was at that point where I was just like you know how to make connections going to shoot my shot and if I you know if she wants me than cool and if not then cool.
Jade: I can't I can't believe it was like it's just crazy to me to think that like it was not that long ago I mean we're filming this on April 20th and you know this isn't going to come out till the end of May so we've only been technically talking for a month and a half but feels like so much longer. In a good way you know! Not in a bad way, in a good way. And just to touch on fan experience, I wouldn't have known that I wanted to do this if it wasn't for being a Justin Bieber fan. I have gained experience in life photo editing and video compilations and you know updating like I remember the one night I was watching Justin Bieber live from Toronto and he was just doing a bunch of songs around Christmas time I believe and his guitar player at the time Dan Kanter commented on my Instagram post because I had listed all the songs in order. And then he commented and was like “No way.” People like I mean this isn't like a bad thing because I'm sure that anybody that wants to come to Jaded is going to be a fan anyway, but the first thing that I look for is, are you a fan? Are you honestly passionate about the music industry? Because you know everything else can be taught through photo editing and the right things to say in a caption that we could teach you like what to talk about on the podcast but like Excel sheets are just hard skills but I'm looking for soft skills. Are you passionate about what you're doing like do I have to tell you that you have to be you know posting? I want people that are passionate about what they're doing and you know like the industry and I already know that you're passionate if you're a fan. You got to love what you're doing especially in an industry like the music industry because it's not easy so it's like you got to work. I tell you this all the time like my work doesn't stop. I wish I could say I got a break within the last month but because it's passion you know, like a hundred percent of my free time is Jaded Productions. I love it and I wouldn't want it any other way, you know. Sorry I got off topic.
Joanna: I completely agree because Was anybody else who wasn't a fan and wasn't link driven by the fact that I love the music industry so much that I want to be a part of it in any way shape or form then our business relationship would not be as good as it is now because I am always down to like figure out what we're doing next time like I want to be on top of like everything in terms of like you know like when I'm working on something I just want to know what are we doing that and so that's something that I feel like I was able to bring to the table but also the fact that yeah I'm passionate about the music industry like I grew up on One Direction Justin Bieber Big Time Rush don't all of that good stuff that you said to and if it wasn't for the fact that I love the industry so much I wouldn't like beginning as much time as I am to this. Like four months ago, I never
thought that’s where I would be where I am right now. That’s seriously the thing. I think my friends who know me from high school and everything they're like “where did this come from” I'm like it's been in me I just didn't know how to do it. Until the day I die I will always shout out Fan to Band. Because like the stigma of being a fangirl, it's like what I said earlier, I felt like I had nothing to bring to the table. Growing up I thought the only way to be in the industry was to be a performer. Granted, I can't sing, whatsoever. Jade is the singer, she can do that. I loved dancing, i didn't know this until yesterday me and Jade were both in cheer. Different levels of cheer, i was in cheer in high school and i learned that i loved to perform, i joined a hip hop group in high school. And after high school, I was convinced I was going to be a professional dancer. I was not trained enough to be a professional dancer on that level, my dream was to be an Ariana Grande back-up dancer.
Jade: I would have supported that, I still support that. If you want to do a 180 in that career, I'm behind you, I just want to see you dance first. We'll do a trade off, you dance and I'll sing.
Joanna: Ugh i'm a little bit rusty though. Quartinne killed that dream for me because there were no studios open. Because I didn't think that I would like to have enough to get into that. I kind of gave up on my dream of getting into the music industry because I had no desire in the entertainment industry like movies and TV and things like that. I didn't really see myself in that lane. Where I had my passion was with music. I just love music and, ask any of my friends from high school, like I will not shut up about the people that I love like Billie Eilish, whatever. It is like I will not shut up about it. But I have learned to take pride in that, and it's because of people like Jade and people in you know like all the street teams things, that I've met who has shown me that it's normal. And if anything, it's encouraged to have that mindset because obviously you don't want to be a unprofessional, but I feel like if you have that passion for something whether it's in the music industry, whether it's to be a doctor, whether it's to be an engineer, It is that you have that fire in you, the employer, or the people who are doing the hiring, they will see that in you and that's what's going to make them want to work with you.
Jade: Yeah I love that you touched on passion again because I just made me think of a story from when I was a child. I don't know if I've ever said this to you, but I feel like I referenced it before in essays and stuff. But you know, my Dad has been a business owner his entire life, and he was just like always doing whatever you want . Like always saying “you can do anything you set your mind to.” I remember every night before bed when i was little he would tuck me in and say “you can do anything you put your mind to.” And I think that that was just like extremely influential in my life because once I found my passion for the music industry, it was just like I could do anything I put my
mind to. Just like hearing that over and over again. So then I got really into motivational speakers in high school and that's when I started doing like my mile run a day and my knees are exhausted but we're still going.
My entire high school career, when I was in ninth grade, I was like I'm going to be a singer. And then And then you don't like and then it turned around like halfway through, and I was like I want to be in the music industry. So like everybody's kind of known my entire life that I wanted to be in the music industry and I think they're just like they're kind of just like waiting, and I was kind of just like waiting. I was like when “when can I do this? when can I start this?” That was kind of the passion of Jaded Productions. I don't know when my opportunities are going to come, but I just know that I can do anything, so I need to create my own opportunity here. And so that's kind of where Jaded Productions came from. That was like a little back story because I love shouting out my Dad anytime I can.
Joanna: Honestly shout out to Jade’s Dad for fueling her passion. Shout out to any parents who are the exact same way if they don't care what lane you're in as long as you're passionate about it. Parents are so influential yeah it's so so important and my mom did not take my dance performances seriously. I would spend hours after school practicing. I would come home and be like “damn i'm so tired, i hate this.” and my mom would always say “why are you wasting your time doing this?” and i wish that i had that influence. I feel like my journey would have been so different. I feel like I would have started so much earlier, granted in my mind, I feel like I'm starting so late because I started in January of this year so I was 20, now I'm 21. But then I look at all these other people who are late twenties like 28, 29 who are you know, changing their career paths and realizing that, you know, they had always had an interest in the music industry, but they didn't pursue it because it wasn't “realistic” or “It’s a waste of time.” And I talked to so many people who are in that space in their life, and they see me and they're like “You are so young you have no idea I wish that I had figured it out when I was 21 instead of 28.” And that blows my mind and it makes me so much more confident in the fact that I'm making this decision now. I was actually really nervous to make my career change because I thought that my family would judge me on it, and they would tell me like you're making a mistake. And I actually talked to my older sister, she’s 28, and I asked her what should I do because I really really love what I'm doing in Fan to Band, and this is before Jaded Productions, before I was meeting all these people, and like hearing all these motivational things from people saying like “if you want to do it then do it.” And I asked my sister and she was like all I can say is that teaching, because like I said before, my major right now is teaching, even though I don't want to go down that lane anymore, she told me teaching is always going to be there. And if this doesn't work out, this as an easy industry teaching will always be there but you don't want to be a teacher
and if you’re 28 and hating your career and then only wanting to change it at that point. And I feel like that was such a huge thing for me, because I thought that my sister was going to shoot me down and say “it's not realistic.” That's not what she actually told me. She said if you really want to do it, just do it because you're going to regret it a few years later if you don't. And that what that really kick-started me into really just branching out so much more and like reaching out to Jade and everything and taking this so much more seriously. This really got off topic.
Jade: I like it. I like it better than what we were going to talk about.
Joanna: The people who support you makes the biggest difference ever because when you feel like people are not on your side or they'll believe in you then you begin to not believe in you but at the same time I feel like I wish that I had taken my passion for the music industry and my love in the music industry so much more serious even though I wasn't you know I didn't have that support early and like in high school and just trust in myself and trusted my gut instead of settling. Like I'll just be a teacher, because I did not see myself doing anything in like STEM or anything. Especially anybody who lives in the Bay Area, you know this like when you were living in the Bay Area, everybody is doing something in STEM, like engineering, whatever it is, everybody is doing something in STEM. Everybody says like you have to do this to make money, but in my mind I was like I don't want to do it. I know that I know myself. I know I don't want to do it. And I wish that I had just again just pulled the trigger earlier on so that I could have had more experience but at the same time I'm grateful that I started anyway.
Jade: I like what you said about feeling late in the music industry. Because a lot of times I feel extremely late and then I’ll probably reference this later but older sisters are the best, mine is also my biggest support system, like she's probably listening to this right now, like outside my door, as were recording this. She's always like “Can I be on your podcast?” I'm like no, and not in a mean way, she's just not in the music industry. Maybe one time as a feature she can talk about us as a younger kid. I'll literally reference my Dad til the day i die, like he is the most inspiration i've ever known. He just started, well he's been a business owner his entire life and I worked for him a couple years ago, and he just started another company and he’s 57. So it’s literally never too late to get into the path you want to be in. He was always in Cybersecurity but he does, it's just so hard to explain, but it's cybersecurity for medical devices in hospitals and making them safer and less vulnerable to hackers. Hackers literally hack medical devices, I had no idea.
Currently it's very very hot industry so he had just started a company not even like a year ago, or something it's like a really fresh, he’s his late fifties like it is never ever too late to start to start doing what you love you know like it's never too late. Like even if I
hadn't found my passion until 80, I would still go for it. That's my toxic trait is like I want to be up earlier than anyone else and I want to be up later than anybody else. My toxic trait is needing to do more than anyone else.
Joanna: Honestly, I feel that.
Jade: Which is why I'm exhausted all the time, it's fine because it's a passion. You do it late and you start early because it's what you love.
Joanna: To anybody who is listening to this or watching this and has that passion, who wants to go towards it, but they're just like “I don't know.” Just do it. Like if it wasn't for this pandemic, I probably would never have done it. And that terrifies me to think about where I would be now if I had not discovered this. Like I don't know where I would be scares me. I feel like if there's anything that pandemic has taught me is that you have to just go for everything that you want. Take the chance you know, buy the merch, buy the concert ticket, do whatever. Like if you're thinking about it, then that means that you want it. And you should just do it because you're going to end up regretting it later. And there's just no there's no point in having those regrets and I feel like I would rather try this and fail than not try at all.
Jade: Money's going to come back, but time won't. Time won’t. Money will continue to flow, and money is not even, money shouldn't even be a factor when you're talking about your passion. We run Jaded Productions for free. If you're an artist listening, and you want free promo, we don't make you sign a contract, we don't make you say you’re exclusive with us, like we are in it for the passion to promote small artists because we understand what it's like to have a dream and act on it/
Joanna: Especially for people who are in the same age range as us. We get you, we're not above you, we’re on the same level as you.
Jade: Yeah and I will never ever, I hope I never even, if I'm most educated in the music industry like the highest of the high, the top of the top, like smack me if I ever think that I am above anyone. Like literally smack me because that's my biggest pet peeve. because it's just like you know we're all humans, and we're all just trying you know until I can learn and stuff so I just and I want to like make a human connection because we’re on a floating rock. Not everything that we think matters, matters. You know, like just trying to please everyone is never going to happen so like, do you. Like Joanna said, there's certainly been a lot of doubts like “Can I actually do this?” And like a lot of them were from me but you know what, you just got to turn on like your favorite motivational speaker or your favorite inspirational playlist and keep moving. Sometimes, it's like you
know, like getting up and just being like “Ugh I have to go to ten meetings today, and I have to write this post, and do this.” it's exhausting. But do it one day at a time and again I will circle back to passion, like if you're passionate about it, it's going to suck sometimes, yeah, because everything so sometimes but keep going. I’ll be here to support you all, and Joanna obviously, because she's amazing. I'll be here to support you all in like smack me if I ever think that I'm above anyone ever.
Joanna: Again, when you’re passionate about something it's not a waste of time. Because there was one point, probably before I had actually begun my work with Jaded Productions, I felt like I was so behind everybody else. I wasn't getting the internships, I wasn't in a billion different things, I wasn't gaining as much experience as I thought and because of that, I felt like I was wasting my time. I felt like “Okay, what's the plan to be doing this?” I'm not good enough, I don't have as much experience as this person, you know? Like when they were my age, they were already doing this, you know this person already graduated, and I'm not even in university. Like I was just always always comparing myself and I feel like, especially in this industry, and in all Industries, it's so easy to compare yourself and compare your journey to somebody else's. And I feel like there were so many moments that I was so close to just being like “What's the point of doing this?” like I'm just going to stick to teaching. and after I joined Jaded Productions is when I finally realized how badly I wanted to do this. and it's none of the things I was doing before was a waste of time, it was bringing me to where it had to be today. And the same goes for anybody who has any passion, like if you are super passionate about something and you're spending all your time doing this, you’re spending all your time on painting, on dancing, on whatever, like it's not a waste of time. It will come in clutch in the end. It really really will. And everybody is on a different Journey, everybody is going to take time to do something and I feel like that's something that I wish that I had really locked in my mind, because before this, I was just comparing myself to everybody. And it's so toxic. You can be toxic to yourself by putting those thoughts in your mind.
Jade: Yeah. And I think our next topic, for anybody listening, will be mental health in the music industry. And I think that is so important to touch on. Comparison is the killer of dreams. Because they act like it's so toxic and it doesn't matter what you're talking about, like if you're not then just career-wise like if you're comparing yourself at the gym. Or like you know like another singer. Because I know I did a lot with myself and I just like a totally different person, totally different voice, totally different everything. We're on this call together like somehow the Stars aligned that we met and you know like we're sitting here on this podcast together but we had totally different paths to getting here. Everybody compares themselves at one point but you just gotta remember you're a totally different person, you're never going to be that person because you’re you. You know and everything that has happened in your life was for a reason to get you
somewhere. Even if you can't connect the dots looking forward you can only connect them looking back, I believe that was Steve Jobs, and I love that so much because it's just like, you can't like you can't really see why something would happen if you're looking forward. like “dang it, I got a flat tire.” Or something, but maybe there was an accident waiting to happen like on the way to somewhere. It's a crazy philosophical way of thinking but i love it. Because it just makes me feel like everything around me is happening for a reason.
Joanna: I was going to say like it just stems back to that cheesy, corny line “everything happens for a reason”, but everything really does. because if Fan to Band hadn't randomly popped up on my for you page, i wouldn't be here today. And I like to stand by that. That's something that is trying to push you in the right direction and it's so easy to look past that. It's easy to say that doesn't mean anything but you have to just trust the process.
Jade: Absolutely, I 100% agree. Yeah, just trust the process like there's a lot of things that of course you know like I wish didn't happen to me earlier in my life but like thank God they did because we know I wouldn't be sitting here making this podcast.
Joanna: We would be completely different people if we had those things that were awful or amazing that didn't happen to us.
Jade: Exactly. That was so organic so just, like thank you so much for going off script with me and like going for that. It was so great to even just get to know more about you and like you know how to tell you a little bit more about me then I'm pretty sure you didn't know. It's been spectacular. We got a way off and I loved it. I want to talk about what we're doing here at Jaded?
Joanna: yeah for sure. Do you want to start with that?
Jade: Yeah! We have just acquired I guess we could speak about this because it'll technically be ready so, Jaded Productions is an artist management company that has taken on Sofia Rose. She is amazing and she will be on the podcast at some point as well.
Joanna: It will be in a few weeks so keep your eye out.
Jade: Just spectacular and if you haven't already checked her out please check her out you know she's she's an amazingly talented musician and not only that she just a great person we decided to bring her on the Jaded Productions roster. and I am so excited to
work day and night for her because I 100% believe that she could go massive massive places. so that is our first artist that we have acquired. We also work on promotionals with Sam Pierce, he is another artist that we've been working with promoting so he's not on our official roster, but we really really support him and everything that he's doing as well. so make sure you check out his music as well, Sam Pierce. We also do “New Music Mondays” where we talk about new music that has come out for that week. and Artist Rec Fridays are also really really fun. And these are for smaller artists that maybe people don’t know about, like we're not going to talk about Justin Bieber.
Joanna: No matter how much we want to Jade: Oh we want to, but we won't.
Joanna: I love that we do this because I think that it's really cool to dedicate a post to an artist who might not be getting as much recognition as they deserve.
Jade: We talked about Alexander 23, we talked about Why Don't We, I believe we've talked about Julia Michaels, about you know artists like that, maybe not definitely not, getting as much recognition as they deserve. You know you should check that out and we also accompanying our Artist Rec Fridays, we do a Just Jaded weekly blog and that we just talked about the New Music Monday and the and then the Artist Rec Friday and then we usually do a topic surrounding pop culture in the music industry Hush on topics like the impact of fandoms and the Grammys and just like a ton of other topics that have been really really cool to write about and Joanna and I basically go back and forth on starting a blog for that week. so it has been amazing because I really loved writing about all of these people and all these subjects, it's so so much fun.
Joanna: It doesn't even feel like work.
Jade: When Joanna and I got on calls, there was this one time there was one life 4 hour long meeting that it felt like work toward the end, but most of the time It definitely feels like not work at all. It's just so much fun to like to talk and network with people like coming up in the music industry, gain some credibility. Even if nothing else, just showing yourself that like “hey I can do this too, it's not just for people that are already established in the industry, I can establish myself.” and I think the biggest thing that I love to talk about with Jaded Productions and I love emphasizing with people that are coming into Jaded Productions that this is a passion project. I care about how nice you are as a person but I just care. Are you passionate about being here?
Joanna: And since coming up towards the end, you're passionate about the music industry, or you just like pop culture, or artist recommendations, See your up culture you want whatever it is make sure you check us out on all social media platforms. It’s going to be Jaded Productions on Instagram and Tik-Tok, but we are actually @Jaded Management on Twitter. Go follow us on Spotify, we have a lot of really fun playlists on there.
Jade: And by the time this comes out, it'll be on YouTube! Yes and Sophia will be featured on my YouTube channel as well so if you want to hear some like insane vocas, check it out.
Joanna: Make sure you follow us on youtube, subscribe to our youtube. Jade: Do you want to do some rapid fire questions before we end here? Joanna: Sure!
Jade: Outside of the music industry, what are your passions?
Joanna: Well, I said I love dancing and I still try to do it every now and then. I'm definitely not as good as I was in high school because I was doing it all day everyday 24/7 literally so I love that. Recently, of course, especially considering the fact that I am most likely talking to Jade 24/7 about or doing something with Jaded Productions 24/7 or anything like school, you know because we're both students, I spend a lot of my time sitting down on my laptop. and I really enjoy being able to get in like a 30 or 40 minute workout everyday just something that makes me feel like I'm losing my body because I know that I am sitting down the majority of the day. I love collecting vinyls, I get scared to play them because they don't want to ruin them, but i love them. I love social media, watching youtube, all of that good stuff.
Jade: A quick few of my hobbies are running. I am an avid runner. I love it it's like it's the biggest like energy Builder when I do it in the morning but like it's an so I try to run twice a day and you know I guess for the viewers for a little background, I've been running 1 mile per day since July 1st 2016 it's now April 20th of 2021. and there has not been, there has been like two days off, but those were made up very quickly the next day. so it's like for sure like running and working out but like it's my favorite thing to do like I love nothing more than to just pop in my headphones and like run on the treadmill or neighborhood. Which sounds really weird for like when you do it how many times you love it. Yeah I also I also collect vinyls and play them I tried like you said I'm very scared to play the record I don't want to mess them up but yeah I love doing that I as I said I'm
a singer also which I don't pay enough attention to which I really would love to get back to yeah I love playing guitar text my favorite thing to do when I'm not singing as you can like cool guitar down like I have them hung up on my wall. I can play the piano, not very well. I can accompany myself but I love it.
Joanna: Favorite music artist?
Jade: its justin bieber. You know I was a huge huge Justin Bieber fan since like 2012 2013 ish which was a rough time to become a fan in the Justin Bieber fandom because if you know you know what was happening in 2013 but you know I it was just it was really fun for me you know so I think that you know and I'll always have that to remember and be like look back on so I think that's part of the reason why I'll probably always be a huge fan of Justin Bieber just because like nostalgia. like is there a song that's not a banger that puts out you know what I mean? I also like Tori Kelly, Ariana Grande, the Jonas Brothers, Demi Lovato, the Chainsmokers, Darren Criss, Prince, Jimi Hendrix, you know like the list can go on. Whitney Houston. Harry Styles, I'm so sorry I forgot that one. Everyone in One Direction. Just got into them a couple months ago, going through those albums.
Joanna: I'm barely getting into One Direction but one of my favorite artists of all time is One Direction and that was probably the first artist group that really got me in the world in fandom. I'm pretty sure you can Google this. Stan Twitter was invented because of the One Direction fandom. it's actually, I've seen it it's actually like you can Google it when was Stan Twitter formed.
Jade: I was on Twitter for Big Time Rush. Big Time Rush invented that, not im just kidding. I got in a fight with a One Direction fan but that's a story for another time.
Joanna: I need to hear that story. But yeah, One Direction was the biggest back in the day. Justin Bieber but I was not as in I wish that I had gone deeper into it but it's because after just be where I found out about One Direction that I was totally soon but also the Jonas brothers are super super close to my heart because like I said I have an older sister she's 8 years older than me so I grew up listening to them in the car because she back in the day when you have to have a CD to listen to in the car she had all this to me she would always leave them in the car another big influence for my sister was Lana Del Rey. I definitely had my fair share of my emo-phase in Middle School. Anybody, if you know you know, I loved Pierce the Veil, swear. Honestly still listening today, but yeah love them, loved All Time Low, Sleeping with Sirens. All genres but more lately my favorite artist art course Harry Styles love Ariana Grande still of Jonas Brothers, I love Dua Lipa.
Jade: You love 5 Seconds of Summer.
Joanna: Artists that I'm getting into like Lauve and Why Don’t We. Trying to get into their older stuff but their new albums.
Jade: Honorable mention to Alexander 23. Joanna: Who we wrote about!
Jade: Go check out the blog and check him out because he should be way bigger than he is. Okay, so dream job?
Joanna: It's torn between artist management and tour management. just because I am a concert junkie. I would love to be in the creative process of seeing the creation of the tour.
Jade: I love concerts. I spent all my money on concerts which is fine. I support it and I encourage it. Concerts are a place where you let loose and be comfortable. I’ve been tossing around the idea of entertainment law recently. I enjoyed my business law class this semester. Really loved it. I love it was like everybody kind of hated me in that class just because I enjoyed it and I was always asking questions.
Joanna: That's so cool.
Jade: So if you're interested, reach out to us. Or not even us, reach out to someone you're interested in. surround yourself with good people.
