‘Crazy World’ of Crazy 90s Rock
When I describe my music taste I usually say, “I listen to pop music and Top 40. I’ll listen to anything as long as I enjoy it but mainly pop or what is popular, the top hits.” Most of the time, that doesn’t consist of rock music unless I happen to enjoy a rock song. Scorpions’ ‘Crazy World’, is an album that you can tell is most likely a fan favorite album for them.
Scorpions has been making music since the 70s, they seem like they have their sound and style narrowed down because of the years that they’ve spent creating music. From the first listen I can hear how their music has been perfectly crafted for them. As someone that doesn’t typically listen to rock music, I found the album still enjoyable to listen to. I wouldn’t go out of my way to listen to their music or the album again. But if it happened to come on I wouldn’t skip, I would let it keep playing.
Though I’m not a normal listener to their music, I can’t say that I have any skips for ‘Crazy World’. They do have some songs that give more of a ballad style like ‘Wind of Change’ and ‘Send Me An Angel’, that can help attract those that aren’t super into rock or heavy rock. It still holds their roots, not making a big change of direction in style for those that enjoy their usual rock sound. I personally found myself enjoying their songs: ‘Lust or Love’, ‘Send Me An Angel’ and ‘Don’t Believe Her’ the most.
While this album was released in the 90s, I can see how it was made during that time. If I heard it anywhere today, it would probably be from one of my uncles or in a record store. But this album also gives off a great upbeat energy that I wouldn’t mind hearing it live in concert because you could jump around at their show without being bored of the music. Even today the lyrics in the album you can connect to like ‘Hit Between the Eyes’ that is about being wronged in life. The lyrics are really storytelling and can picture parts of the song happening in a scenario in your head, like ‘Don’t Believe Her’, the lyrics to me represent a powerful woman that would do what she wants to get her way.
This album is enjoyable and I think others that are like me, that don’t listen to rock can still find enjoyment in the album and in their music. Whether it's the feeling of being taken back in time from the age of the music, the energy that the rock music gives off or simply listening to the lyrics to feel something and connect with it.
