AUGUST 08 TALKS: TOWARDS THE SUN AND TOWARDS THE MOON
AUGUST 08 is a deeply unique artist who expresses himself through his own personal artistry, and if you don’t know him now you will soon. His music, passions, and personality shine through in all aspects of his artistry, and he has big dreams in music and in life.
With dreams of being on the cover of a Bass Pro Shops magazine, AUGUST 08 is a person soon to be seen everywhere. AUGUST 08 has worked with some of the top artists in pop, and co-wrote “Sorry” by Justin Bieber and “If I Can’t Have You” by Shawn Mendes. While he has had a notable career as a songwriter, AUGUST 08 feels passionately about his own music and his own artistry. He approaches the two crafts vastly differently.
When writing for himself, AUGUST 08 tries to become a student of the game. He pays no mind to what is considered right or wrong, and does his best to let the emotions lead his art. AUGUST 08 deeply connects his music to emotions, and isn’t afraid to let it out in the studio when he feels the need to show emotion and cry. As he has grown in his life and his career, he has decided to choose to feel his emotions deeply.
AUGUST 08 hopes to help people heal through his music. His goals when writing about his hardships and troubles are to provide life lessons for those listening. He hopes to guide people through life and help them avoid the tough times he has endured. AUGUST 08 wants to be a guide through rough patches, just like his favorite artists were for him. Being homeless for a period of time, Travis Scott was an artist who inspired him to continue to pursue his passions.
AUGUST 08’s music is extraordinarily personal and unique, and a broad range of obscure artists are his primary influences. However, a couple of famous influences of his writing and music include Benny Sings, Jamie Foxx, Stevie Wonder, Snow Patrol, and Phil Collins.
AUGUST 08 has many plans outside of music, and wants to expand his career through a wide range of projects. Besides the desire to be a Bass Pro Shops cover model, AUGUST 08 wants to dip his toes in the film world. With ambitions to write a TV show or movie, AUGUST 08 wants to start off his film career by directing other artists' music videos. Outside of music, he also spends his time golfing, bowling, grilling, and lighting illegal fireworks. AUGUST 08 has an impressive collection of three personal bowling balls.
“Towards the Moon” is the second part of “Towards The Sun’, and “Towards The Sun” is full of summer songs that make you feel like you are basking in the sun. This album was inspired from cabin fever induced by the pandemic, and the need for an outlet. This project felt different from his past projects because he felt as if he had space to do whatever he decided to do. There was no label pushback, and there is a second part of the album to be expected soon.
‘Towards The Sun’ is one of AUGUST 08’s favorite projects he has released, and he felt he was able to create freely. Most of his songs are written in the shower or the car, and lyrics are a big focus for him. The title track of the album reflects upon a past relationship in which AUGUST 08 feels lost after the drama of a breakup.
This album explores many genres and styles, with sounds from indie to R&B. With vocals similar to that of Post Malone, and instrumental sounds similar to that of Childish Gambino, this album is deeply unique with influences and individuality.
The seven track album features ScHoolboy Q on a song titled ‘Cutlass’ which feels reminiscent of 90s hip hop, and is the perfect mellow but exciting summer song. The song “Role Models” is the track that AUGUST 08 is most excited to perform live, and the song reflects upon his youth and the struggles he faced. With lyrics like “Ramen noodles or starve? Just go to sleep.” and “Never the right time, life doesn't feel right” AUGUST 08 details how he faced tribulations, but ultimately music is what got him through it. AUGUST 08 proceeds to sing “Then I found light in the darkness listening to James, Scott, and Ye. Locked in my room, you can’t stop it, one more song I might fly away.” AUGUST 08 shows his passion for artistry and his appreciation for the artists that came to his rescue, and AUGUST 08 hopes to be that person for someone who may be struggling.
‘Keep Me Around’ is a track that describes the intoxication of the drama that can come with a messy relationship. ‘Keep Me Around’ describes toxic behaviors and how they can easily be ignored for love. “Co-Star” is another track that describes the difficulty of a relationship, and gives a shout out to the horoscope app, Co-Star. AUGUST 08 says “If we match on co-star tonight, lil baby I can see me falling right here before my eyes.” The horoscope app is involved in the relationship described in the song, and plays a vital role in determining their fate.
AUGUST 08’s album ‘Towards The Sun” is a deeply relatable and unique album worth keeping on repeat. The second part of his album titled “Towards The Moon” is out now, so be sure to stream it.
