Amaya’s trip to the garden
By Amaya Taylor
When preparing to listen to Vortxz’s album, automatically the opening track, “Satellite” on their newest album, The Garden, felt as if it was structured to send you into orbit. The first track on an album simply sets the entire tone for the project and quite frankly, there was nowhere but up to go from here. This hype dance track with an insane buildup was perfect to introduce you to this group if it’s your first time checking them out. On first listen of the album, expect to feel ultimate summer road trip vibes and be invited to a storytime involving feelings, firsts, and lasts.
Vortxz, an indie-Latino rock band debuted in 2021 and was formed by Isaias “Rambo” Rodarte, the lead singer and songwriter with the mission to make music that helps people escape from the stressful world around us by indulging into their music with hope, freedom, and expression. The other members include Noe Rodriguez as the lead guitarist and keys and Jonathan Lopez on the drums. With an emphasis on Latin influence, their genres bounce around from alternative rock, rock, and indie styles, en Español. Over the years, Vortxz have accumulated nearly 46,000 monthly listeners on Spotify and 14.4K followers on Instagram, solidifying their fan base!
Their sophomore album, The Garden released on Friday, July 25th and is packed with dance party vibes, love stories, and more. Their single “Call Me On The Phone” invites their fans to call them when they need someone to talk to, lean on, or they need help navigating the tough decisions of everyday life. With a summery beat, and high energy, this vibe is sure to become a staple on summer playlists worldwide. The vibes continue in the song “Show Me” with a playful balance of English and Spanish portraying that a relationship can show them how to love and treat a partner.
The heavy acoustics throughout the album can encourage listeners to engage in deep sentimental thought while also enjoying upbeat instrumentals that you can’t help but move your body to. To this point, the seventh song on the album, “Estas Bien” is compact with three vibes in one, the first most R&B infused song on the tracklist. R&B lovers will surely keep this song in rotation as it starts off slow and the buildup is something you wouldn’t want to skip. This song tells a story through the beat changes and reminds you of a song created to match the perfect party scene vibe in a film.. This song transitioning into the very next song, “Que Voy A Hacer” is perfect. “Que Voy A Hacer” is the answer to “Estas Bien”’s call as the upbeat and dance vibes continue.
Call and answer tracks are always a perfect addition to an album as they keep listeners engaged and encouraged to listen to the album chronologically. While being able to hit shuffle on an album and still have a great time, there is something supremely special about being able to understand, vibe to, and relate to an album the most while listening chronologically. “You’re scared, I know it, and I can’t help it, I’ll be there for you, so rest your head on me” is so reassuring and creates a safe space within their music especially reserved for their listeners. Overall, The Garden is such a perfect title for this album, as it symbolizes a walk in a “garden”: You will feel light on your feet at first and may encounter obstacles , but ultimately, you might meet someone or something in “the garden” that makes the entire trip worthwhile. This album including the perfect syncing of upbeat (Que Voy A Hacer), ethereal (Pretty Enough), and R&B vibes (Four) to accompany your literal walk in The Garden makes this album something that everyone should include on their summer and early fall album rotations.
