1824 has updated their weekly playlist for New Music Friday, and the tracks are jamming! Ranging from artists such as JID to Aidan Bissett, I was looking forward to diving into this playlist and finding my new favorite songs.
When I started the playlist and heard all of the new music for the first time, I was initially captivated by JID’s new single, “Behold”. From the tantalizing intro of the song to the riveting and witty lyricism of JID, “Behold” is truly something to behold.
While I enjoyed that banger of an opener, I truly felt led to talk about my favorite songs of this entire new playlist.
With six million monthly listeners, singer Mabel has solidified a fanbase and just gained one more fan in me with her single, “Love Me Gentle” from her upcoming self-titled mixtape, “Mabel”, dropping July 25th. This soft, sultry beat is enough to get you dancing around your kitchen while making a snack or pouring yourself a glass of wine. It's also suitable for a late-night drive downtown with the wind combing through your hair. "Don't love me hard, love me gentle” are definitely my favorite lyrics, as they're very direct, yet not aggressive. This track definitely feels like a warm hug or a phone call from a long-distance loved one. “I’m always tryna please no matter what the cost” “Break myself into pieces, tally up the love and lost”. A lover in every sense of the word. She perfectly encapsulates the feeling of being someone who selflessly pours out love to everyone who is deserving of it, but she who deserves it most rarely feels it. This song is a love letter not only to the romantics out there, but it serves as an intangible diary of Mabel's, making room for whatever is to bloom.
After listening to “Love Me Gentle” on loop for an hour, I eventually moved to “I DON'T WANNA KNOW” by Braden Bales, a Canadian artist, writer, and producer. This is not a single you want to skip--ever. It had a similar vibe to a classic Chase Atlantic song. This song inspires anyone who listens not to dwell too much on the stresses of their current situation, but to embrace it. Not only to embrace it, but to be carefree. Got a message from an ex that you don’t have the spirit to read? Just write it off, you don’t wanna know (right now) -- and keep it pushing. You have 99 problems, but this single by Braden Bales ain’t one.
