ARTIST REC FRIDAY: Julia Michaels

You may not know the name Julia Michaels, but she is one of the unsung heroes of the music industry.

Michaels began her journey in the industry through songwriting for other artists, some of which you may not know she’s worked on. Some of the biggest hits she’s worked on are Justin Bieber’s hit track “Sorry”, “Close” by Nick Jonas featuring Tove Lo, and two hits by Selena Gomez, “Lose You to Love Me” and “Bad Liar”. She also worked closely on Gwen Stefani’s album, This Is What The Truth Feels Like, with songwriting credits on 10 out of the 12 tracks on the album.

As you can see, her talent may not be known by the general public, but it is shown through these chart-toppers she played a role in bringing to life.

Michaels stands out the most due to her honest songwriting, and how she displays the inside of brain so closely for her fans to listen and connect with. Her own well-known chart toppers have been “Issues”, “Miss You” with Clean Bandit, “If The World Was Ending” with JP Saxe, and “What A Time” featuring Niall Horan. She has yet to release a debut album, but has released three EPs titled Nervous System, Inner Monologue Pt 1, and Inner Monologue Pt. 2. She also has recently released two singles, “Lie Like This” and “All Your Exes”.

Although many do not know her name or her talent, I predict that she will come up as her own artist in the near future. She recently has teased the release of her debut album, and as a fan, I can not wait to hear it.

NEW MUSIC MONDAY: Madeline the Person & Mia Giovina

DEBUT SINGLE ALERT (x2)! You heard me right, today we’re talking about two amazing artists with two equally as amazing debut singles!

These two artists are Madeline the Person and Mia Giovina. Madeline (19) and Mia (20) both began their journeys through posting singing covers on the app Tiktok. Madeline (@madelinetheperson) now stands at over 300k on the app, while Mia (@badgirlmimi) stands at over 150k.

Madeline, previously known as Maddy Estelle on Tiktok, released her self-written debut single “As A Child” on March 19, 2020. Prior to this release, she has released many singing videos on the app of song covers, but never failed to display her own artistic style. Just by viewing her bright, half pink, and half blue hair, you can see her individual style and feel her personality. She first teased her personal debut track on Tiktok back in 2020, and has since been very open about the meaning behind it. The track describes the struggle dealing with the weight of different forms of personal traumas at such a young age. Since her massive come up on social media, she has now signed with Warner Records. If you love artists like Kacey Musgraves, Julia Michaels, and Billie Eilish then you’ll love Madeline!

Mia just recently released her self-written and produced single “Sirens” on March 26, 2020. Her largest viral moment on Tiktok came from her rewrite of the Harry Styles ballad “Cherry”, but from the girl’s perspective. Since that explosion of a video, she went on to create many other rewritten versions of tracks, definitely displaying her artistry and talent at songwriting and producing music. Like Madeline, Mia chose to be very personal with her debut single, writing about the difficulty of outgrowing your hometown and wanting to spread your wings, and in her case, go from her hometown in New Jersey to New York. Since her social media come up, Mia has signed with VH Management. If you love artists like Olivia Rodrigo, Noah Cyrus, and Alessia Cara then you’ll love Mia Giovina!

Tiktok and social media in general has definitely been a game changer in the discovery of fresh young artists, and these two ladies are proof of that. I personally can not wait to see what the future holds for these two, and will definitely be keeping up with their future releases!

WOMAN ACCOMPLISHMENTS DURING WOMEN'S HISTORY MONTH

In honor of Women’s History Month, I thought it’d be fun to talk about some of the biggest accomplishments made by women in music this March of 2021. This month has been a huge one for women in the music industry, from the Grammys to new releases! Although all the amazing moments can’t be touched upon, here are some highlights!

First off, let’s talk singles. Starting off with somebody who needs no introduction, we have ROSÉ from the stellar KPop girl group, BLACKPINK. ROSÉ dropped her highly anticipated debut solo single, “On the Ground”, as well as the equally amazing track “Gone” on March 12th. Now don’t be fooled,  ROSÉ’s BLACKPINK days are not over, let’s not forget that her fellow member JENNIE released her debut solo single, “Solo”, back in 2018! This brings me to the edge of my seat wondering what the future of BLACKPINK will look like, along with their remaining members Lisa and Jisoo.

Speaking of singles, Selena Gomez also had quite a big month for her career. Firstly with the release of her single, “Selfish Love” with DJ Snake on March 5th, to the release of her Spanish EP, “Revalación”, on March 12th. Gomez shocked and excited fans after announcing this new step in her musical journey, and definitely displayed her passion in the project, which is all any fan wants to see.

Next up, we’ve got to talk about Gomez’s long time bestie, Taylor Swift. Not only is the remake of Swift’s second studio album, Fearless, expected to be released on April 9th, but this month we were given an unheard, “From The Vault” track titled “All Over Me” featuring Marren Morris. Morris and Swift have been friends for many years now, so it’s safe to say this collaboration was highly anticipated! And may I say, I am ecstatic to hear the remaining tracks on Fearless this coming month.

Moving on, let’s talk the Grammys, specifically yet another trailblazer, Beyoncé. After winning three awards that night, March 14th, for Best Music Video, Rap Song, and Best R&B Performance, Beyoncé has made her mark in history as the women with most Grammy awards! But Miss Carter was not the only one who made history that night, Billie Eilish became the youngest woman to win the award for Record of the Year two years in a row. Now that’s what I call women making their mark! If you want a deeper dive into the Grammys and it’s other top moments, then be sure to check out my first blog posted on March 19th, titled, “Music’s Biggest Night”!

With Women’s History Month coming to a close, let’s not forget to celebrate women everyday and every month of the year! We here at Jaded Productions are a proud, fully female led team, and will always be glad to highlight some of our favorite female artists!
