The Revealer Madison Cunningham
If you’re a Harry Styles fan, you may be familiar with the artist Madison Cunningham, or at least her name. In a press conference with ˚1824, she speaks on touring, opening for Harry Styles, and the creative process and meaning behind her new album Revealer.
Madison is a singer-songwriter-guitarist based in LA. With her sound described as a take on west coast folk rock with an influence of different jazz sounds.
Her most recent album Revealer was released earlier this month and is an 11-track story on self-progression. With tracks like ‘Life According to Raechel: “relaying an idea of grief that almost anyone can relate to in one way or another”.
The title of the album Revealer is a reflection of the overarching album theme itself. Revealer was one of the first names considered for the album, and it showcases the way Cunningham is constantly sharing what she has been trying to hide. Lyrically throughout the entire album, Cunningham is reflecting exactly what Revealer means.
Cunningham believes that the top three fan-favorite tracks from the album are: ‘Sunshine Over the Counter,’ ‘Your Hate Could Power a Train,’ and ‘Life According to Rachel.’ All songs that are easily relatable to listeners and fans, which is why she thinks those are fan favorites.
While writing the album, something important to Cunningham was making the album relatable. The writing process she says was not very strategic. The main purpose was to write about her life experiences. She says she wrote and recorded each track one by one. When it came time to put together an album, she claims she was just lucky that it all came together in a continuous story.
Currently, Madison is getting ready to start her Revealer Tour Friday, September 16. Previously, she opened for Harry Styles at his sold-out Madison Square Garden show in April of 2021.
She claims that opening for Styles helped her to prepare for her upcoming tour, with opener Bendigo Fletcher. Saying that she stood on stage with her band and they just looked at each other when the crowd knew the lyrics to her music, saying they did their homework and no crowd is stupid.
Like any other artist, Cunningham is nervous about her tour, because now those people are there to see her. They paid to hear her sing and when she was just an opener there was not as much riding on her success of the show. Whereas now she has more of a responsibility to make the fans proud.
Cunningham also claims that the song ‘Life according to Rachel’ never seemed done to her. With two Grammy nominations last year alone and more definitely on the horizon for Revealer, and the up-and-coming tour that will bring her even more success, it’s easy to say her career is something that is far from complete.
