Welcome back to this month's episode of Music Industry Insights! For this month’s podcast, Jade and Joanna interviewed Tara Demers and talked about the music industry, creative burnout, and her famous digital drawings. Be sure to check out the full episode of A Little Jaded on Spotify!
Tara Demers is a rising Junior at Wentworth Institute of Technology majoring in Interior Design and minoring in Business Management. You may know Tara from her Instagram account @badcrystalart where she uploads her digital drawings and hosts a podcast where she interviews people who also want to be or are in the music industry.
Bad Crystal Art posts digital drawings of celebrities drawn intentionally poorly, and Tara has done over five thousand drawings on her Instagram account. Bad Crystal Art has been recognized by various media outlets such as 1824, Shadow Atlanta, iHeartRadio and more.
Being a multi talented artist, Tara has experience as a digital artist and photographer with Amplify Her Voice and Tongue Tied Magazine. Tara has shot artists anywhere from Kacey Musgraves to Louis Tomlinson, and has solidified herself as a creative in the music industry,
All of the experiences in Tara’s career have been largely credited to networking. Once Tara began posting her digital drawings and began getting noticed, it became a snowball effect to inspire her to continue putting out work. Being able to put herself out there has been a huge confidence booster and one of the best ways to grow her personal network.
Tara also specializes in live events and concert photography, and recently had the chance to shoot 5 Seconds of Summer. Being a big 5SOS fan, the experience was very surreal for Tara. Tara began concert photography last summer, and started off shooting small intimate shows.
To be able to be approved to go to concerts as a photographer, Tara says that it is very important to be on a publication. She goes between shooting for Fan To Band and Amplify Her Voice. Sometimes it can be difficult to find artist PR and press contact information, but it can be a good idea to go through Live Nation portal to apply to be accepted to shows. Some shows are more strict and secure than others, but some shows allow photographers early entry and other experiences.
Be sure to check out the entire conversation between Jade, Joanna, and Tara to hear more about her experiences as a concert photographer, her experiences and struggles in the music industry, and her creative mind!
