Artist Rec Friday: Ben Platt

Welcome back to Just Jaded Weekly everyone! We’re so happy that you’re here! Today’s Artist Rec Friday is Ben Platt!

You may know Ben Platt from the Pitch Perfect series from 2012 and 2015! He’s also been in Broadway shows like Dear Evan Hanson and The Book of Mormon. And if you can believe it, Ben Platt is also a singer!

In April of 2021, Ben released a single called “Imagine”, and he released an acoustic version of the song about a week ago. He’s been releasing singles since 2017, and we’ve loved every piece of music that he’s released so far. He even released a song with Lin-Manuel Miranda in 2018! My favorite song from Ben Platt has been “Imagine”, but I really enjoy the entirety of the Dear Evan Hansen soundtrack.

Trust me when I say that Ben Platt’s work will not disappoint you. He has done everything, and I’ve got a feeling that there’s so much more to come for him! Stream “Imagine” and all of his other works (and if you’re like me, you’ll go back and watch Pitch Perfect because it’s just. that. good.)

New Music Monday: King Princess

If you follow any of our social media accounts, then you know that our New Music Monday for the week was King Princess and her song “House Burn Down”. Not only is she an incredible artist with an amazing discography, but she is doing wonderful things for the LGBTQIA+ community!

King Princess’ real name is actually Mikaela Mullaney Straus, and she is from Brooklyn, New York. At only 22 years old, she is signed to Mark Ronson’s record label, Zelig Records, which is an imprint of Columbia Records under the Sony Music umbrella. She was already so talented at such a young age that record labels were starting to take notice! If you can believe it, she actually received an offer from a music label at 11 years old, but turned it down.

King Princess has spoken openly and confidently about being gay and genderqueer. Some of her music reflects on her experiences with the LGBTQIA+ community, and she beautifully crafts all of her songs with her own perspective.

My personal favorite song from King Princess is “Ain’t Together”, and that is from her 2019 album Cheap Queen. King Princess just released the deluxe version of Cheap Queen in 2020, and I’ve been playing it on loop for weeks now. The songs are so deep and genuine, and they make you feel like you’re really connected to her through her music. Which, as we all know, can sometimes be hard to do with certain artists. But the music that King Princess puts out will definitely make you feel like you’re just a bit more connected to her life and her story.

With all of that being said, go stream King Princess, and we’ll see you all back here next week for Just Jaded Weekly!

Happy Friday everyone!
