Artist Rec Friday: Maneskin
Happy Friday! This month, Jaded Production is so excited to share our artist recommendation with you all! This Artist Rec Friday we think you should check out Maneskin!
Maneskin is an Italian rock band that came together in Rome back in 2016. The band is composed of vocalist Damiano David, bassist Victoria de Angelis, drummer Ethan Torchio, and guitarist Thomas Raggi. The band has three albums out, and their most recent album, ‘Teatro d’ira - Vol. I’, has skyrocketed their popularity outside of Italy and Europe.
Maneskin first began when the members met in high school, and performed on the streets in their early days. The band was brainstorming names and Victoria de Angelis, who is half Danish, asked her band members to suggest some Danish words, and they eventually landed on the word ‘maneskin’, which means moonlight. Maneskin began entering local contests and writing their own music, but they really rose to prominence in 2017.
In 2017, Maneskin competed in the eleventh season of the Italian talent show, X Factor, and finished in second place, but their international breakthrough really came when they won the 2021 Eurovision Song Contest with their song ‘Zitti e buoni’. Even more international success came to Maneskin when TikTok got a hold of their music. TikTok immediately became obsessed with their song ‘I WANNA BE YOUR SLAVE’, and the song currently has almost half a million videos using the sound.
The other song that TikTok claimed as its own was Maneskin’s cover of ‘Beggin’’ by The Four Seasons. ‘Beggin’’ currently has over 10.6 million videos using the sound, and has been a trending audio on TikTok for a few months now.
Maneskin has some songs in English, and many songs in Italian, and has recently released a new single titled ‘MAMMAMIA’ which is sung in English, and has an accompanying music video directed by Rei Nadal. The band truly has fans from all over the world, and is a globally recognized rock band.
Maneskin stands out against other bands because of its gritty vocals and nostalgic rock sound, and if you like bands like Paramore, Greta Van Fleet, or The Killers, then you will absolutely be obsessed with Maneskin!
“Thriller” by Michael Jackson - Review
Happy October! This month, in honor of Halloween, here at Jaded Production we are going to be celebrating and doing a deep dive into Michael Jackson’s 1982 album ‘Thriller’! ‘Thriller’ is one of the most iconic albums of all time, and is the perfect album to blast all October long!
Michael Jackson’s ‘Thriller’ album includes iconic hits like ‘Beat It’, ‘P.Y.T’, and of course ‘Thriller’. The nine song album is the sixth studio album by Jackson and is one of the most culturally significant albums of all time. The song ‘Thriller’ changed the music video and promotion industry, and solidified MTV in the eighties.
The ‘Thriller’ music video, directed by John Landis, is a thirteen minute long short film that accompanies the song. The Halloween themed video shows Michael turning into a zombie and a sort of zombie flash mob, and was the sole force that sealed MTV’s reputation as a new cultural phenomena. It was one of the first music videos to be used as a promotional and marketing tool and transformed music videos into a serious art form.
‘Thriller’ was Jackson’s first album to reach number one on the US Billboard Top LPs & Tapes chart, and it spent a record number of thirty seven weeks at number one. The album was preceded by seven singles including ‘The Girl Is Mine’, ‘Billie Jean’, ‘Beat It’, ‘Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin’’, ‘Human Nature’, ‘P.Y.T (Pretty Young Thing)’, and ‘Thriller’. All seven singles reached the top ten on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart, and ‘Beat It’ and ‘Billie Jean’ both reached number one.
The ‘Thriller’ era changed Jackson’s career forever, because during a performance of ‘Billie Jean’ in Motown 25: Yesterday, Today, Forever Jackson debuted his signature moonwalk dance. After this performance, he sold one million copies worldwide just that week. Selling thirty two million copies worldwide by the end of 1983, ‘Thriller’ became the best selling album of all time, and it was the best selling album worldwide of 1983, and was the first album to become the best selling album in the United States for two years in both 1983 and 1984.
‘Thriller’ remains the best selling album of all time and has set many standards within the music industry for its songs, music videos, and promotion. We hope that you will listen to it all October long!
