New Music Monday: ghosted my therapist - Rachel Bochner & real bad - eskelite
Welcome back to New Music Monday with Jaded Productions! We are so excited to be back and share our picks for newly released music we think you should check out!
The first song that we think you should go check out is Rachel Bochner’s newest release titled ‘ghosted my therapist’! ‘ghosted my therapist’ was released September 2nd, and we haven't stopped listening since! The song has already racked up almost one hundred thousand streams on Spotify, and is the perfect sad girl song to dance to in the middle of the night.
‘ghosted my therapist’ is Bochner’s second summer 2021 release, and third release of this year. In January of 2021, Rachel released her EP titled 2 AM, and her song ‘hating myself in the summer’ was released in July of this year. Rachel is going strong with over fifty five thousand monthly listeners on Spotify, and is showing no signs of slowing down anytime soon!
Her emotional song with all too relatable lyrics is the perfect anthem for any person in their twenties trying to navigate growing up. The New York City based singer songwriter shouts out her mom in her new track, and stays true to her indie pop roots.
If you love artists like Maggie Rogers, Julia Michaels, or Lorde, then we know that you will absolutely love ‘ghosted my therapist’!
The second song that we want to share with you all is eskelite’s newest release titled ‘real bad’! ‘real bad’ is eskelite’s follow up single after her hit ‘gumdrop menace’ and we know that you will absolutely love it!
eskelite’s song ‘gumdrop menace’ boasts almost one hundred thousand streams on Spotify, and shows off her grunge trap sound and low vocals. ‘real bad’ is a wonderful contrast to ‘gumdrop menace’ and shows off eskelite’s range as an artist. ‘real bad’ displays a higher tone of vocals, and eskelite touches on topics that are making her feel real bad.
If you like artists like CORPSE, BAYBE, or Lenii, then we know that you will love her upbeat trap sound and relatable lyrics.
Be sure to go stream ‘ghosted my therapist’ and ‘real bad’ and show these amazing artists some love! While you're at it, be sure to go check out our ‘New Music Monday’ playlist on Spotify that was curated by our amazing street team members! The playlist is filled with tons of our favorite new releases from the month of September! We hope you love it!

MONTERO and Lil Nas X Marketing:
With the release of his debut album ‘MONTERO’, Lil Nas X has been a name uneasy to ignore over the past few months. Lil Nas X started off his career strong in 2019, and has been breaking records ever since.
Lil Nas X released his debut single ‘Old Town Road’ in 2019 and it has become one of the biggest songs of all time. ‘Old Town Road’ broke the record for most consecutive weeks spent at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. After spending seventeen consecutive weeks at number one, the song has since become the only song ever to be 15x certified platinum.
But how did he do it? Lil Nas X used marketing strategies to target the younger generations through memes on Twitter, Instagram, and TikTok which quickly spread widely online. After recording the song in his DIY studio on a beat by the Netherlands producer YoungKio, he created over one hundred short videos to gain interest and traction with his release. ‘Old Town Road’ really started to gain viral traction with the ‘Yeehaw Challenge’ on TikTok, and the response to the challenge would gain attention from Billy Ray Cyrus and would be enough to land a remix featuring Cyrus on the Billboard charts. The song currently has over 815,000 TikTok videos using its sound.
With the massive success of his debut song, Lil Nas X was a name that everyone knew, but this success was not without much doubt from the public. Some people disliked his country rap song and were certain that he would be a one hit wonder. But, his marketing tactics and quality music proved people wrong.
In late March of 2021, Lil Nas X released his lead single for his upcoming debut album. The song was titled ‘MONTERO (Call Me By Your Name)’ and was released alongside an accompanying music video. This music video sparked controversy because some people were unsure how to feel about Lil Nas X’s actions in the video. Lil Nas X could be seen provacatively pole dancing down to hell and the song is noted for its queer themes. Through the controversy and chatter amongst supporters and haters, Lil Nas X was once again able to prevail with ‘MONTERO (Call Me By Your Name)’ reaching number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
Alongside the controversial music video, Lil Nas X created another project that many found to be in distaste. He released Satan Shoes that were made to go along with the video, and were all made with a drop of human blood. He sold 666 pairs of the shoes, and the shoes could be better described as an art installation than a business. The art collective that created the shoes, MSCHF, was sued by Nike for using their shoes and upcycling them to fit Lil Nas X’s vision.
But, as Lil Nas X has proven time and time again, he is no stranger to controversy, and he knows how to turn bad publicity into good. Lil Nas X continued making memes about the situation and posting them on the internet, and made promo videos that went alongside the lawsuit from Nike. Lil Nas X made short videos showing him in an orange jumpsuit and in a court hearing all in part to promote his third single titled ‘Industry Baby’.
In the videos put out to promote ‘Industry Baby’, Lil Nas X can be seen sitting in a courtroom with signs that say ‘Nike vs. Lil Nas X, The Supreme Court, July 19th, 2021’. These posts and fake court hearings drew lots of attention to the upcoming single, and many people thought the videos were real upon initial viewing.
But alas, the videos were just promotions for his new song ‘Industry Baby’ and its accompanying jail themed music video. ‘Industry Baby’ features rapper Jack Harlow, and the music video has amassed over 130 million views on Youtube. Lil Nas X also released two other versions of this music video, an “uncensored” version, and a version without any music. By doing so he has created lots of traction and attention to his debut album ‘MONTERO’.
All of Lil Nas X’s controversy about his music, music videos, and art installations have served him well because he currently has over 58 million monthly listeners on Spotify, and his social media presence has made it difficult to ignore him, his career, and his music.
Go check out Lil Nas X’s debut album ‘MONTERO’ and decide for yourself what you think about his marketing tactics. One thing is for sure though, you will love his music!
