New Music Monday: Stay- Justin Bieber ft. The Kid LAROI

A brand new collaboration between Justin Bieber and The Kid LAROI has just dropped last Friday, July 9th! The new single titled ‘Stay’ will be released on The Kid LAROI’s upcoming project titled F*ck Love 3. This new high-energy song with heartbreak-themed lyrics is the second bop made by both Bieber and The Kid LAROI, as the two have previously joined forces on Justin’s album ‘Justice’  released in March 2021 for a song called ‘Unstable’.

The Canadian powerhouse and Australian superstar have teamed up for an energetic song in which the two are singing lyrics about how they can’t bear to lose their significant other. Throughout the song, they are both singing how they long for their love interest to ‘stay’.  Over an upbeat 80’s inspired synth pattern, The Kid LAROI starts off the song delivering lyrics about how he has fallen into a repetitive pattern of breaking the trust of his significant other, and how he has promised to change but knows deep down that he never will. Bieber joins him on the song by showing off his powerful falsetto vocals in his verse about how he is afraid to mess up his relationship and leave his significant other heartbroken. The two perspectives in the song come from different places, but both have the same goal in their hearts. Both Bieber and LAROI have made mistakes within the relationship, whether with trust issues, dishonesty, or fear of messing up a good thing, they both sing “I do the same thing I told you that I never would, I told you I'd change, even when I knew I never could”.

The two performed their bop live in Las Vegas this past weekend at the Encore Theatre and proved that this song is going to be one of the most played songs of the summer, with the crowd already screaming the lyrics back to them with intense energy.

The new summer anthem was dropped with an accompanying music video directed by Colin Tilley, who is a frequent collaborator with Justin Bieber. Tilley has directed previous music videos for Bieber’s hit songs ‘Peaches’, ‘Holy’, ‘Anyone’, and many more. The music video shows time frozen for The Kid LAROI as he is suspended in midair, before running through the streets of Los Angeles where time has stopped for everyone but him. Justin Bieber delivers his verse on the rooftop of a downtown building, and the two meet up to deliver the final chorus. Both of their voices blend seamlessly as they sing the last chorus together, and express their dismay by saying “I know that I can't find nobody else as good as you, I need you to stay, need you to stay, hey”.

With nine credited writers and four credited producers, this song had many amazing people working on it. Bieber and The Kid LAROI both are credited writers, and another familiar mainstream pop face, Charlie Puth, has both writing and producing credits for ‘Stay’. Puth put out a TikTok the day the song was released saying that this song is “one of my favorite things I’ve ever been a part of.”

Now that Justin and The Kid LAROI have teamed up to make two incredible hits, this surely won't be the last collaboration between them!

Artist Rec Friday: Rachel Bochner

Welcome back to this week's Artist Rec Friday! We are so excited to present Rachel Bochner as the artist we think you should check out this week!

Rachel Bochner is a singer/ songwriter from the suburbs of New York City. She makes sad girl summer anthems that are perfect for driving around in summer with the windows down. Her fun upbeat pop songs with a bit of a trap flare, partnered with heartbreaking lyrics make her songs the perfect songs to dance to alone, in your room, at 2 AM.

Bochner released her debut single in November of 2019 titled “Ocean Drive”, and she has not slowed down since. With a total of nine singles and one EP released Bochner has accumulated over forty-four thousand monthly listeners on Spotify with well over a million streams across her music. She has said that her lyrics come from her own personal life experiences, with a little bit of fiction thrown in because, well, it’s more fun that way.

Rachel once said in an interview with Clout that she only started making music a few years ago, because she knew that she wanted music to be a part of her life. She had always imagined that having music be a part of her life would mean working for a record label, and she did do an internship at a record label in their A&R department. When she did this internship she realized that she wanted to be making her own music and sharing her own art with the world. From then on, she has been making music, and that is how we have gotten the amazing songs from her that we have today.

Bochner released her debut EP titled “2 AM” in January 2021 and it contains five songs including the hit “Strangest Dreams”. She delivers upbeat dance anthems and down-to-earth piano ballads that showcase her elegant and emotional voice. Her music has been featured on Spotify editorial playlists like Indie Pop, Fresh Finds, and Fresh Finds Pop. Her next single called “hating myself in the summer” comes out on July 15th, and this track was entirely written, produced, mixed, and mastered by women!

If you like music by artists like Flume, and Clean Bandit because of their upbeat trap sound, then you’ll like Rachel Bochner, or if you like artists like Lorde, Taylor Swift, or Julia Michaels because of their heartfelt lyrics and emotional delivery, then you’ll love Rachel Bochner!

The Career and Life of Justin Bieber

Twenty-seven-year-old Canadian singer Justin Bieber has made quite a name for himself in his career spanning over a decade. With many accomplishments, records broken, and accolades achieved, there is no sign that Bieber is slowing down anytime soon

A wide-eyed aspiring singer living in Ontario posted singing videos on Youtube and had no idea how drastically his life would change. His Youtube covers would get him discovered by Usher, the two met up by happenstance, and Usher ended up getting him signed to Island Def Jam, and Justin began working on creating a musical catalog for himself. His debut single “One Time” was released in May of 2009, and later that year he released his debut EP titled “My World”. This debut EP took on a massive life of its own gaining immense popularity with only a total of seven songs, including the hit “One Less Lonely Girl”, which turned into a top 20 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

In January of 2010, Bieber released another single, “Baby” which reached number five on the Hot 100 chart, and the music video accompanying the song now has over 2.5 billion views on Youtube. Later that year, in March, he released his ten-song album “My World 2.0”, which debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 albums chart. This release would get him on Saturday Night Live to perform “Baby”, “U Smile”, and to perform in a few sketches as well alongside host Tina Fey.

2011 was a year for a new Bieber, he made his feature film debut with his concert documentary called “Justin Bieber: Never Say Never” which detailed his childhood and showed behind-the-scenes footage of his “My World” tour. The film was a 3D production that grossed $73 million at the box offices. He also released a holiday album showcasing his more mature sound and featuring musical acts like Busta Rhymes and Mariah Carey, and this album earned him another number one spot on the Billboard 200. The following year in June he released his album “Believe” which lead single “Boyfriend” debuted at number two.

Later, in 2013, Bieber earned another number one album with “Believe Acoustic”, becoming the only artist to ever have had five number one albums before turning nineteen. In May of 2013, Bieber received the first-ever Milestone Award at the Billboard Music Awards, and later that year he began releasing a series of R&B-focused songs which would eventually be compiled into the project titled “Journals”.

2014 was a quiet year for Justin’s career, but his personal life was publically displayed. With an arrest and vandalism charges, he spent most of 2014 cleaning up his life and trying to move forward with his career and life.

Justin bounced back in 2015 by starting off the year with his own Comedy Central roast. Roasters at the event included Kevin Hart, Pete Davidson, Martha Stewart, and previous collaborator Ludacris. Then just a few months later he achieved his first top ten hit since 2013 with his collaboration with Diplo and Skrillex titled “Where Are Ü Now”. A few months later, he achieved his first number one song of his career with the song “What Do You Mean?”. This song quickly took over radio everywhere. He hit another huge milestone in December of that year with his album titled “Purpose”. This album sold 521,000 copies in its first week and placed seventeen songs on the Billboard Hot 100 simultaneously. He broke the previously held record of fourteen songs, held by The Beatles and Drake.

In the first few weeks of 2016, Bieber had already achieved another milestone with his second number one hit, “Sorry”, and a few weeks later, his third number one hit “Love Yourself”. He kicked off his “Purpose Tour” in Seattle, and the tour ended up grossing over $250 million. In 2016 Bieber also won his first Grammy in the best dance recording with his song “Where Are Ü Now”.  During 2016, he also broke eight Guinness World Records including most streamed track and album on Spotify in one week. During this year he also set out on his “Purpose” world tour. However, in 2017 with fourteen shows remaining, he had to cancel the rest of the tour. After a very long tour of over 150 shows, it became too much for Justin to continue.

In April 2017, JB jumped on the “Despacito” remix which spent sixteen weeks at number one, and soon in 2018 he was engaged and quickly married to Hailey Baldwin, and the two are still going strong. In other 2018 news, a video of someone mistaken for Bieber went viral when the Bieber look-alike is seen eating his burrito from the middle.

Throughout 2019, 2020, and 2021, Bieber never slowed down. In the first month of 2019 he launched his clothing line “Drew”, and in February he posed alongside his wife, Hailey on the cover of Vogue. One year later, he released his first album in five years called “Changes” which earned him three Grammy nominations, and he won a Grammy for his collaboration with Dan + Shay on the track called “10,000 Hours”. Later in 2020, after quarantine was in full effect, he teamed up with Ariana Grande to release their quarantine anthem titled “Stuck With U”.

Already in 2021, Bieber has released his album called “Justice” with the single “Peaches” reaching number one, with this being his seventh number one. Justin is still going strong, with no sign of slowing down, and his most recent release with The Kid LAROI titled “Stay” is expected to be a massive song this summer.
