The Summer of New Music and Rising Artists
By Rebecca Sobrevilla
2024 has been an unbelievable year for new music releases. As we’ve rolled into the summer, we continue to have new music announcements, launches and promotions. While there are a lot of A-list musicians who have recently taken over the music scene, many smaller indie artists are releasing projects this summer worth checking out! Let’s take a look at what some rising stars have been up to lately.
Chloe Mayse resonates with the queer community with Pride Month single “High School”
We’re starting off by highlighting up-and-coming alt-pop singer Chloe Mayse. Chloe is a queer singer and songwriter from Toronto, Canada who is incredibly excited to share her talent with the world. She began playing music at a young age and feels that music has saved her life. While partaking in the songwriting process, Chloe was able to figure out who she is and how she identifies. She has continued to implement her life experiences and struggles into her musical creations, while also being a huge advocate for the queer community.
On June 7th, she released her Pride Month Single “HIGH SCHOOL”. When discussing her latest song, Chloe says, “‘HIGH SCHOOL’ is based on my experience of going to an all-girls Catholic school. It’s my ‘coming out’ song—the one I wish I could have released at fifteen.” She captures this experience perfectly through her honest lyricism and storytelling abilities. All of this is backed with soothing, yet vibey melodies and harmonious vocals. Those part of the LGBTQ+ community will be able to resonate with her story, along with feeling empowered by her shared experience through her artistry.
Not only did she release this track but she also accompanied the song with a music video. Chloe stated, “The music video shows what I was picturing in my mind—writing lyrics, thinking about this friend who I was completely in love with and how I would have wanted our interactions to go if I had been out in high school.” The music video does an exceptional job bringing her story to life and showcasing pride.

Laura Pieri reclaims her power with EP and Short Film Frankie
Our next new music highlight comes from Brazilian musician and visual artist Laura Pieri. Laura moved to America in 2014 to pursue her lifelong dream of becoming a pop star. Her goal is to combine her pop musical influences with her Brazilian roots and use her songwriting and creativity to connect with others. After almost giving up on her dreams in the music industry, Pieri bounced back with her empowering EP titled Frankie. This project was released on May 31st and follows the story of Frankie, an artist who is reclaiming her power and rediscovering her voice. When discussing her project, she said, “‘Frankie’ was born out of my struggle to be in control of my identity and career, since it more often than not felt controlled by the hands of men whose vision did not align with my own.”
On June 17th, Laura released a short film that accompanies her EP. With this, she transitions from track to track, while simultaneously painting the picture of the vision she had when creating Frankie. Each song plays an instrumental part in showcasing her narrative. Starting off with the opening track “Sea of Tragedy,” followed by “Daughter of Demeter,” “Come Clean,” and “Goddess Energy.” Frankie is truly brought to life with captivating visuals and an enthralling story driven from the powerful lyrics displayed through all 4 EP tracks. With values such as self-acceptance, living your truth and more, this is a must watch!
With the EP and short film in mind, Laura also says, “Although I still have a long way to go, I really am learning to love, trust, and stick up for myself. It’s definitely aspirational to not care about what other people think, but I am manifesting that. And, like the character Frankie, this doesn’t have to make sense for anyone else. Just for me. And it does.”
